Among their clients are Xerox Corporation, ManTech International Corporation, Cyveillance Inc., Silanis Inc., Consolidated Bank and Trust Company, Network Access Solutions, Amaox Ltd., CoStar Group, and the American Chemical Society.  Hurshell instructors have delivered curriculum at the Xerox International Training Center as well as various field locations throughout North America, Europe, and the Caribbean.
 

Gilbert H. Scott, Sr., President and CEO, Hurshell Associates

Gilbert H. Scott Sr. is president and chief executive officer of Hurshell Associates, located in Vienna, Virginia. Building market value is Gil's expertise. Whether challenged to launch a start-up Bio-Tech or IT venture, guiding the marketing efforts of a major corporation, or accelerating revenues within a high growth market, he has consistently delivered results.

Prior to founding Hurshell Associates, Gil served in various senior management positions, including executive vice president of sales & marketing, senior vice president of sales operations and general manager of hardware, services, and software companies.

Gil was also president and chief operating officer of The Bartech Group in Detroit, Michigan, the 29th largest African American-owned business in the United States, specializing in the recruitment and placement of engineers, MIS and IT professionals to the automotive, banking and utility industries.

Recruited to Xerox Corporation in 1971, he earned nine key promotions throughout his 25-year career, ending as vice president and general manager of Xerox Business Services, the company’s fastest growing and most profitable business unit. Credited as one of two executives who built this unit, he helped create a world-class outsourcing organization servicing major corporations nationwide. Gil lead the product marketing team that won back market share for Xerox against the Japanese in the copier marketplace in 1982 to1984. Earlier career achievements with Xerox were equally notable, including several top performance awards as a sale rep, general manager, and as a vice president in sales organizations throughout the company.

Gil served in the US Army during the Viet Nam War and was twice decorated with the Bronze Star for valor. He was a guest lecturer at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Sloan Graduate School. Gil is a graduate of Hampton University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics. He has completed the Executive Marketing Manager Program at Stanford University, the Xerox Senior Management Program, and the Wharton School of Business International Forum in September 1995.

Gil currently serves on the President’s Cabinet at University of California, California Polytechnic, and the Corporate Advisory Board at George Washington University.

Grace Staples, Vice President Operations, Hurshell Associates

Grace Staples is Hurshell Associates’ vice president of operations.  Joining the company at its inception, her responsibilities include consulting with clients, project management, and executive coaching. Additionally she recruits and directs the activities of 30-35 contract instructors who fulfill training outsourcing contracts with large commercial and government clients.

Drawing upon 23 years of successful sales, management, and corporate training experience at Xerox Corporation, Grace excels in helping organizations build high performance work teams. As a business coach she assists talented executives achieve their career potential. At Xerox, Ms. Staples held global marketing responsibility for launching two new production printing products. Other key positions included operations general manager, manager of strategy and business development for technology, human resources and quality manager. As manager of both sales and customer administration training, she oversaw the design, development, delivery and evaluation of major instructional programs used by employees and customers worldwide. Her strategic planning skills were best demonstrated when she directed the re-engineering of Xerox Business Services’ U. S. Print Shop Operations, a hundred million dollar business. In 2000 she led a major corporate customer service initiative that involved training over 600 telecom employees in problem solving and communication skills.

A native of Indianapolis, Indiana, Ms. Staples is a graduate of Mid America Nazarene University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in management. She has an Associate of Applied Science degree in computer technology from Purdue University.  She earned a certificate in International Management from Georgetown University in 1998. Grace has served as a board member on George Mason University’s Masters Degree in Organization Learning.
